ORGANISED people think time passes more quickly than it actually does, according to a study in the British Journal of Psychology (vol 90, p 333). Jan Francis-Smythe of University College Worcester and Ivan Robertson of the University of Manchester asked 48 people about how they managed their time and monitored them while they solved crossword puzzles and checked pages of text. Those who claimed to be good time managers were better at estimating how much time the tasks were going to take, but were less accurate in judging how long they actually had taken. “This gives them a sense of control over time,” says Francis-Smythe,
